Thamaga police investigates four deaths
09 May 2017
A couple and their son are reported dead while their 14-year-old daughter is fighting for her life at Princess Marina Hospital after their house was ravaged by fire on the wee hours of Saturday.
The incident, according to Thamaga Station Commander Superintendent Moses Makgoeng, occurred while the couple and their two children aged six and 14 were sleeping in the same room leaving them with severe burn wounds.
Two of the victims, the 44-year-old woman and her six-year-old son, were found dead from the ruins of the burnt house while her 53-year-old husband died later at Princess Marina where he had received medical attention.
The 14-year-old Standard Six pupil at Kumakwane Primary School was reportedly in a critical condition.
Attempts to put out the fire by neighbours and fire brigades from Molepolole and Gaborone were not successful as the house was already burned down upon arrival, said Superintendent Makgoeng.
In a similar incident, a Kumakwane Junior Secondary School teacher was found dead in his house at the school premises on Saturday.
The deceased is alleged to have been found dead by one of his colleagues after he allegedly failed to respond to numerous phone calls on the fateful day.
Station Commander Makgoeng said although investigations were still at the preliminary stage, they do not suspect foul play.
The names of the four deceased persons are still being withheld until their next of kin are informed. ENDS
