NW elects new council chairperson

North West District councillors have elected councillor for Thamalakane North, Mr Duncan Enga as their new council chairperson and nominated councillor Mr Lathang Molonda retained his position as deputy.
Cllr Enga defeated former chairperson, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa with 28 votes against 19 while Mr Molonda was unopposed.
During his acceptance speech, the new chairperson thanked fellow councillors for showing confidence and trust in him.


 Mr Enga said they exercised their right to vote and stuck to their words to give him the responsibility to be at the helm of the council.
He assured the House that service delivery would be top of the agenda during his tenure in ensuring optimal performance of the council and urged them to work harmoniously with council management in order to promote service delivery, growth and development of the district.


“As we are left with two and half years to approach general election, we need to introspect and see how far we have gone in terms of service delivery and what our challenges  are because at the end of the day we have to account to our electorates,” he added.
Mr Enga said since they had pending projects, there was need to double their efforts and remain focused to become effective and efficient in the delivery of their services so as to leave a remarkable legacy by the end of their term.
He said their focus should be to fast track pending projects and ensure they benefited the communities as expected.


His deputy, Mr Molonda, also thanked the House for giving him another chance to lead the council. He said their votes were an indication that they still trusted his leadership style to continue with the council business.
He assured them teamwork and proper consultation in every business they undertook. Lastly, Molonda commended former council chairperson, Mr Mbulawa for a job well done and assured him that they would continue where he left.
Earlier on, Mr Mbulawa revealed that he had worked well during his tenure to serve Ngamiland community and thanked fellow councillors for their  support.
“I am very proud as I have done my level best to service the district since I took over and I enjoyed your support,” he added. ENDS
