Segokgo retains council chairmanship

The South East Council District council has retained Mr Phenyo Segokgo as its council chairperson.
He was elected unopposed on Monday during a special full council meeting, where his deputy, Mr Andrew Mabeo also retained his seat unchallenged.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Segokgo who is the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) councillor for Sefhoke ward in Tlokweng thanked fellow councillors for having trust in his leadership.
He said there was need for the councillors and staff to double their efforts in delivering their mandate to the electorates.
Mr Segokgo said his second term which was the last before the next general elections was pivotal in selling the council to the electorates.
Therefore, he said failure to deliver on mandate would cost the councillors dearly in their election campaigns.
Mr Segokgo said there were many developments which had taken place during their tenure citing the completion of Ngotwane Bridge, some internal roads, crafting of Ramotswa-Boatle road in to dual carriage and servicing of land in the district as some of those that worth noting.
“I just want to preach unity amongst councillors.
I just want to preach unity amongst staff. Let us work together,” he added.
Mr Segokgo further added there were other projects such as the Tlokweng District Development Plan review which needed all stakeholders’ attention, adding that they were pushing for the review of Ramotswa District Development Plan.
Earlier , the council secretary Mr Lebuile Israel said there was no need for conducing elections if there was only one nominee and subsequently declared the chairperson and vice chairperson elected officers. ENDS
