Church donation benefits Gamodubu day care

Gamodubu Day Care Centre this weekend received P30 000 worth of food hampers from Universal Church.
Handing over the donation on behalf of the congregation, Bishop Frank Rathebe expressed gratitude to church members for their continued spirit of giving to improve the lives of the vulnerable and the challenged among society.
The donation, he said was a gesture made possible through individual church members’ contributions.
He emphasised that Universal Church was obliged to take part in supporting challenged communities.
He noted that the church had made it a culture that every two months, they identified segments of communities to donate toiletry and groceries to.
“It is important that roles of churches were evident towards supporting individuals in need to allow them live meaningful lives and constantly pray that they recover from status they did not choose to live in,” said Bishop Rathebe
Receiving the donation, Gamodubu Day Care Centre’s, Ms Shirley Madikwe appreciated the gifts.
Ms Madikwe said the donation would help improve the declining academic school results and truancy among the Gamodubu primary school pupils.
She said provision of daily meals at the centre aimed to encourage children to regularly come to school as they would get breakfast before going to school and lunch before departing for their respective homes.
She also noted that pupils walked long distances regularly to school, hence the need to feed them from the centre to reduce truancy which impacted negatively on performance.
Those benefiting from the centre’s feeding programme are school going children from Gamodubu, Mmamhiko, Gamononyane, Mmakanke and Mmanoko areas.
Some of them are also provided with accommodation.
The programme, she said, had brought ‘enormous’ improvement as it had reduced absenteeism at schools.
Ms Madikwe expressed happiness that the support would ensure sustenance of the project, which had been in existence for the past 11 years.
Nominated Councillor Oabona Thebeetsile was grateful for the founder’s endless effort in soliciting support to improve the social status of children with not so good social background. BOPA
