The Department of Buildings and Engineering Services (DBES) has handed over a house to the Mogobe family in Mogapi.

Handing over the house in Mogapi recently, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development deputy permanent secretary, Ms Halakangwa Mbuali said it was good of the Selibe Phikwe DBES office to feel compassionate when they learned of the Mogobe children living without proper shelter.

She said this encouraged them to raise funds in order to build the house.

“As a ministry, we are proud of what the Selebi Phikwe office has done, and they have made us proud,” she said.Ms Mbuali urged them to continue doing the good job for many families in the country. The house was built at the tune of P110 000.

She said the greatest gift anyone could give was shelter and food to people in need, adding that her fellow employees saw the Mogobe children as part of the community and deserving to be treated with dignity.

She said despite the challenges that the employees faced whilst undertaking the project, the team persevered until the last brick was laid.

She said community service projects were embarked on a voluntary basis with the goal to help people in a particular area.

She also noted that community service days were introduced by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama in order to encourage public servants to extend a helping hand to communities in which they served.

The purpose, she said, was to uplift disadvantaged communities, revive the spirit of compassion and contribute to sustainable development.

She said each ministry was expected to set aside one day each month to give back to the community. ENDS
