FrancistownNataMaun road in NDP11

01 May 2017

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila has informed Nata residents that A3 road from Francistown to Nata and Nata-Maun would be done by different contractors.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Nata on Friday, Mr Mokaila said when he took office at the new ministry in October last year; A3 was not included in National Development Plan 11 (NDP11).

And, as a result of damages resulting from the heavy falls, he had to make a proposal to Cabinet to have it included in the plan.
Francistown-Nata is 200 kilometres, while Nata/Maun road is 300 km, a total of five hundred kilometres which will be divided into 100 kilometre per contractor.

This, he said was to have many companies benefiting from the project, as well as Batswana residing along the road as they would be employed by the companies.

He however said the road department would take necessary measures to fill potholes and put the road in a better state.

He nonetheless appealed to the community to report corrupt practices in his ministry’s departments noting that some of the projects done by the ministry had failed because of corrupt practices.

And this   had caused government a great loss financially. He noted communities where such projects were undertaken had lost trust on government due to poor workmanship or substandard work.

To date, he said, he had requested for forensic audits at respective departments in his ministry as a way of weeding out corruption and those found involved would have action taken against them.

In addition, he stated that he had made arrangements to establish a Project Management Office to monitor all projects undertaken.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Rebagamang Rancholo of Nata complained that at the time A3 road was closed at Zoroga, there was no consultation with them as community leaders, despite that Gweta, Zoroga and surrounding villages got their services from Nata while Nata residents used the Gweta Primary Hospital.
