Government key in PPP development

Government has been commended for its key role in Public Private Partnership (PPP) development.
Speaking at the PPP conference hosted by Stanbic Bank Botswana, head of corporate and investment banking, Mr Sherperd Aisam said PPP projects could be a means towards further growth of the economy.
He cited the partnership between government and De Beers as a classic example of successful PPP initiatives that could be benchmarked on.
Mr Aisam however noted that the best way to successfully develop the PPP was implementation of project, adding that the National Development Plan 11 (NDP11) was such a platform.
On the significance of PPP initiatives, PPP coordinator at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Orono Otweyo said the responsibility was on private sector to work together with government to deliver on the vision of the country and its economy, with a strong bearing on the success of the partnership.
Meanwhile, the Public Private Partnership conference was aimed at unpacking and exploring models and possible applications to the Botswana economy.
The deliberations drew on insights from completed PPP projects across the African region as a means towards growth of the economy.
Furthermore, the conference converged key players across different sectors to explore PPP opportunities in the recently commenced NDP 11. ENDS
