BMC annual revenue improves
26 Apr 2017
Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse says Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) annual revenue continues to improve as a result of the management approach and strategies implored since 2013.
Explaining to Mozambique President, Mr Filipe Nyusi during tour of the BMC plant, Mr Autlwetse said as marketing channel of Botswana beef, proposals were in place to privatise Lobatse and Francistown abattoirs.
Although there has been success with BMC, Mr Autlwetse noted that there had been some challenges, which included water shortages and disease outbreaks like Foot and Mouth Disease.
He however said government had put in place strategies for diseases control and to avail water for production targets.
Mr Autlwetse emphasised that relations of the two countries were further enhanced by such visits, especially that Lobatse was a historic place to the people of Mozambique.
President Filipe Nyusi also visited Samora Machel Monument in Lobatse.
In an interview with Mozambique Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Silva Dunduro, he said Samora Machel Monument would be a site for memories for both Botswana and Mozambique as well as a reference for struggle of liberation of Mozambique.
He noted that the site would also be used for reconstituting the history of Africa’s liberation in particular Mozambique.
Plans are underway to turn Samora Machel Monument into a museum, which Minister Dunduro noted should have started, but because of administrative constraints, the project was delayed.
He further noted that like other similar institutions in South Africa and Maputo, government of Mozambique has made public awareness in Mozambique about Samora Machel monument among the people of Mozambique; saying the Samora Machel Monument was established in 1987.
He added that after the completion of the museum, the people of Mozambique will have interest to visit the site. ENDS
