Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to officially open the annual Letsema hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture Development and Food Security at Takatokwane on Thursday (April 27)
In an interview, Kweneng District Agricultural coordinator, Ms Khaliso Phokedi said the two-day event would start with the touring of stalls on Wednesday before various stakeholders make presentations in the afternoon.
“Initially we planned the official opening to be on Wednesday, but because of the Vice President’s other commitments we had to push it to the following day,” she said.
Ms Phokedi said Letsema was an annual platform where they meet as agriculture stakeholders to discuss how to improve food security in the country.
“The event brings together all the farmers from all our 10 regions as well as other stakeholders in the agriculture sector to try and map a way forward on how to tackle challenges that affect food security in the country as well as assist each other,” she said.
Ms Phokedi said one of the activities of the event would be to discuss the resolutions that were agreed upon at the last Letsema in Kang last year, and to check how much progress has been achieved as well as find solutions where the resolutions have not been met.
She said some of the stakeholders they expected at the event included BIDPA, BAMB, BMC and the Kweneng Land Board among others.
The theme of the event is: Practising smart agriculture to attain food security. ENDS
