Having turned his hobbies of karate and body building into a business when he founded Bonvic Services in 2007, Mr Victor Leshomo has now turned his sights on hosting a security and defence Expo in Gaborone, which would be a three day event from July 28-30.
In an interview, Mr Leshomo said the event sought to draw together tourists, local people, business, youth, community organisations and other interested stakeholders to educate, create awareness and celebrate the country’s richness, diversity in security and defence industries under the theme Human Skill, Technology and The Future.
He indicated that sponsors that decided to come on board would be afforded the opportunity to promote nation building, advance social cohesion and boost economic development in one of the most important sectors of the economy.
“Our vision for the Security and Defence Expo is for it to contribute to the long term development of Botswana’s economy and community and in so doing achieve international recognition for both Gaborone and the event,” he said, adding that if the budget allowed it, they would love to bring Carlos Ray Norris, popularly known as Chuck Norris as one of the the speakers.
“Chuck Norris is an interesting personality who also has one of the largest martial art clubs in the world - Chun Kuk Do,” said Mr Leshomo. He added that focus would be on private security companies, government security and defence institutions, security equipment manufacturing companies (especially in Information Technology), security training academies from South Africa, defence clubs and associations (martial art clubs, and boxing).
Speaking on his target audience, Mr Leshomo said the general public, residents of Gaborone and the entire economically active nation, amounting to approximately 200 000 people was what they were targeting. BOPA
