Be innovative

An open day helps stakeholders share information.
Speaking during public entities of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security press conference, Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) chief executive officer, Mr Edison Wotho said for agriculture to be innovative, farmers need to be educated.
“We are here for potential farmers and investors, we need you because we give you the information and we want feedback from you as users”, he said.
“We are taking agriculture to the people, we are advisors to the investors and we want to promote agriculture as a diamond that does not lose value,” he added. He highlighted that Botswana needed to be a centre of excellence and look beyond boundaries because of the geographical location and the expertise that she had.
For his part, general manager at Botswana Vaccine Institute, Mr Onkabetse Matlho said for agriculture to be innovative, farmers had to be educated in order for them to be innovative concerning the methods of farming. He noted that innovation helped in the achievement of economic diversification and food security.
A farmer, Mr Keletso Rakhudu noted that farming was about innovation and technology and it was also about manipulating the farming environment.
Mr Rakhudu noted that this year’s theme, Agriculture First, be Innovative, was appropriate.
He urged participants to venture into farming, do things better and be wise. end
