20 Apr 2017

Library is an important place as it contains useful information such  as rearing of animals and their diseases, control and treatment.

This was said by Nata Community Library and Cultural Centre, head of station, Mr Simon Motsage in an interview recently. He said apart from relying on books, there is also access to Internet where one could search and discover additional information and moreover it was beneficial for the youth who wanted to venture into small stock business.

Mr Motsage said there were various programmes that they offered such as needle work programme, basketry and weaving programme and basic information on communication technology programme as a way of bringing the community closer to them so that they could benefit from the library.

He added tha the aim of this programme was to help people master the basic concepts of the programme of their choice so that they ended up doing it at home and open their business as well as selling to earn a living out of them.

For the pupils, he said there was a home work programme offered by the library that aimed to help them finish their assignments as well as helping them to get the right books that contained the required information. He said there was another vocabulary and spelling programme that helped the pupils to construct words and sentences.

“We have recreational activities for children whereby they watch movies on Fridays and Saturdays as a way of refreshing their mind and we also give them an opportunity to play video games on the computers,” he said.

He encouraged people to register for the library membership as it will make it easy for them to borrow books or other library materials. He said it would also help them to know the number of people who used the library most.

The only challenge, he said was that some adults forgot to bring back books as some go to their lands and cattle posts then return them later than stipulated time.

Mr Motsage said he was only being pleased by the number of youths and pupils using the library as per month his statistics showed an increase of over 1400 users.BOPA
