Ministry warns of roaming elephants

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, through the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, informs the public about the roaming elephants in Kweneng and Kgatleng districts.

A press statement explains that their spoors were seen at Lephaleng lands and Seshoboloko area on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kgatleng District, and in Legonono, Kudumelapye and Ngoatlhwane lands in the Kweneng District.

The release further states that on April 16, one elephant was seen in Marungwana and Munyetlatlala lands, and that wildlife officers are working around the clock searching and driving them back to conservation and range areas.  “The Department of Wildlife and National Parks will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action.”

The public is advised to exercise extra caution when in these areas and avoid provoking or harassing the elephants especially with dogs. The public is also requested to continue reporting to the nearest wildlife office, kgotla or police station if they see the elephants, BOPA
