Church leader calls for child protection

20 Apr 2017

Pastor Gary Pelotshweu from Love Botswana Outreach Mission Centre has appealed to the community at large to come forth and adopt children who are in need of families.

He said many children were unsafe around the country, adding that those living with disability were also being discriminated against and called on the locals to alternatively foster children and provide them with a place where they could be safe and grow properly.

He made the plea during a gathering held at the Village Church, noting that it was their mandate as the mission to see children growing up in families as they needed care, love and protection.

The mission is a non-governmental organization that support government and other humanitarian initiatives by filling in the gap where government need NGO support. The mission which is committed to developing African leaders has established a child welfare institution called Lorato House Rescue Centre in Maun which has a special wing for children living with disabilities.

Pastor Pelotshweu revealed that mostly, non-citizens had showed interest in adopting the children, but it was unfortunate as the law stated that they could only foster them for two years. He accused locals of hiding behind culture and yet they complained about non-citizen taking their responsibilities.BOPA
