12 Apr 2017

The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation will hold the Annual Heads of Mission Conference (HOMC) on April 18- 21 at the University of Botswana Hotel and Conference Centre.

A press release from the ministry states that the conference will be held under the theme: ‘50 Years of Botswana's Foreign Policy: Celebrate, Reflect and Advance.’

It says the theme aims at highlighting the major milestones in the conduct of Botswana's foreign policy over the past 50 years.

In addition, it indicates that the theme aims to reflect on how Botswana should strategically position herself to become an influential and respected player in the highly competitive and dynamic global affairs.

The press release notes that the HOMC is a consultative forum between the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation and key public and private sector stakeholders, where Botswana's diplomatic envoys are briefed on major development issues, including government programmes, national projects and policy initiatives.

It further states that the conference further provides a crucial platform to reflect and chart a coordinated approach in advancing Botswana's national interests abroad.

The statement notes that some of the highlights of the conference will include a joint briefing between President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama with Botswana Heads of Mission and Foreign Envoys accredited to Botswana.

The release says a panel discussion will also be arranged in partnership with the University of Botswana to discuss Botswana's foreign policy achievements and to reflect on the way forward in advancing Botswana's foreign policy trajectory. ENDS
