Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has fulfilled a promise he had made earlier on to Bikwe to solicit a sponsor for residents’ transport.
Speaking during a presentation ceremony for a 16-seater minibus donated by Car Wings to Bikwe on April 10, Mr Masisi, who is also MP for Moshupa-Manyana expressed gratitude for the noble gesture.
Residents were in dire need of transport and it was then that the Vice President and his constituents made a consensus to rescue the situation.
Therefore he pledged to assist through soliciting a sponsor for a minibus to which Car Wings responded positively.
The Vice President shared that the vehicle would be taken care of by Methodist Church Bikwe Branch to which a handover ceremony for the vehicle is scheduled in the near future.
He said the vehicle branding would depict ownership by Bikwe residents.
On other issues, the Vice President said Bikwe was a perfect pilot site for a number of research projects by Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI), noting that solar energy could be explored in the area to rescue residents from the dark.
He shared that BITRI had been mandated to identify and develop appropriate technology solutions in line with national priorities and needs.
Mr Masisi decried sand poaching, emphatically pointing out that such had negative effects on local communities and the environment.
For his part, Car Wings representative, Mr Mohamed Raza said the company donated the minibus as part of the business corporate strategy to give back to the community.
He said the company sought to change the lives of the unfortunate people and those in need to the better.
Mr Raza said the vehicle will help ferry pupils from and to school as well as sick people to the clinic.
He implored fellow business people to follow suit. ENDS
