There was more to winning for Tafic than anything after being halted by Motlakase Power Dynamos to gain an early promotion into the elite league.
Tafic football club on April 8 eased past Chobe United in a Debswana First Division north match played in Kasane to edge closer to their much anticipated promotion to the BTC Premiership.
The game ended with 2 goals for Tafic against Chobe United’s only goal.
As soon as the referee Omphile Phuthego blew the whistle the audience was captivated by the prospects of the spectacle of Botswana’s oldest team redeeming their glory.
Tafic showed intentions of going all out in attack as they exchanged neat passes to advance into the opponent’s half.
The game was a one sided affair as Tafic taunted Chobe through attacks from Rodney Buka, stringing deadly passes to the marauding dribbler Machongo Mbatshi putting pressure on Chobe united quarter backs.
Tafic seemed to have a mountain to climb as in the 10th minute Chobe United captain Keabetswe Batunda scored from a corner kick from a rare attack from the home team.
Thereafter it was a tricky tackling affair from both sides prompting the referee to stop the match from time to time for fouls.
On the 40th minute Rodney Buka’s efforts were rewarded as a neat inter play between him and Machongo Mbatshi resulted in the equalising goal sending fans into electrifying cheers.
The home team’s efforts to score proved futile resulting in aerial balls.
Tafic proved to be hard to beat for the DFN debutants as the experience of Mmoloki Kafuku and Buka was key in the middle of the park to deny Chobe United play maker Moalosi.
The game went to a half time still logged at 1-all.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Chobe united as their goal scorer and captain had to be rushed to hospital with a dislocated hand.
The injury woes continued to trouble both teams as in the 66th minute a head collision with Chobe United’s Bongani Ranji left Thato Mosweu in need of medical attention.
The game had to be stopped for over ten minutes as a result.
However on the 78th minute, Tafic increased their lead with their substitute Uyapo Tibathuwe who slotted past keeper Oaitse Baakile.
The game ended with Tafic winning the match by two goals to one, edging a step closer to the premier league.
In an interview with BOPA Chobe United’s coach Shakes Mombala congratulated Tafic for winning the game.
He however complained about the frequent injuries which occurred during the match.
“It was a 50/50 match, we had our chances but we wasted them. We could have won,” he said.
Tafic Coach, Elias Chinyemba on the other hand said that it was a tough match as Chobe United was playing long ariel balls.
“We could not stick to our initial strategy,” he stated adding that their aim was to secure automatic promotion.
He noted that the injury suffered by Thato Mosweu was serious but stable. ENDS
