Chiefs GU in stalemate

Mochudi Centre Chiefs gaffer, Bongani Mafu said he was more pleased with the fact that they managed to honour their fixture against Gaborone United at the Molepolole Sports Complex on April 9 than the two points they collected.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Mafu said this was due to the fact that for close to a month he has been struggling to get all his players to training.

Chiefs players have reportedly been boycotting training due to outstanding salaries payments.

Mafu however, said it was important that they honoured the game as it would have been an embarrassment to both the team and the local soccer fraternity as a whole. “It was a matter of saving face and I am happy that may boys managed to agree to honour the game. I can also assure you that starting this Monday we will be able to train together as a team and prepare for our next game over the Easter Holidays,” he said.

Chiefs were however, still missing some of its players, notably Jerome Ramatlhakwana, Dirang Moloi and Lesego Molemogi.

Turning to their display on the field, Mafu said that despite lack of proper training, his players made a good account of themselves even though at some stages they could not physically cope with their opponent.

“GU overpowered us physically at some stages in the game, but we are happy to have collected a point against them. We could even have collected maximum points, but for the soft goal that we conceded which was a bit of a disappointment,” he said.

Chiefs will be facing high flying Township Rollers next Saturday.

Meanwhile Gaborone United coach, Rudolfo Zaparta was worried at the failure by his team to convert clear cut scoring opportunities.

He said despite creating numerous of such chances, their final finish has always been wanting.

“I can assure you that we play the best football in the country. We never resort to tactics employed by small teams such as time wasting and we will never do that. We only have to improve in converting chances created,” he said.

Even though he appeared uncertain about his future at Moya Goleele as he said his contract is coming to an end with this season, Zaparta said whether he would still be around or not, he is willing to correct the problem for the next season.
