SPAR donates to House of Hope

09 Apr 2017

Spar has donated 60 track suits worth P23 000 to pre school learners at House of Hope in Palapye.

Handing over the tracksuits Spar representative, Mr Gerhard Meyer informed the employees of House of Hope  that corporate social responsibility was a priority at Spar Supermarket.

He said Spar had identified the needs of the unprivileged members of society throughout the country and had found pleasure in working towards such needs to curb the consequences of scarcity on Batswana.

Mr Meyer highlighted that donating winter track-suits to House of Hope pre-school was not their first deed of charity.

He said for years they had been involved in charity work involving giving hampers to the needy, giving Christmas prizes to patients in hospitals, buying clothes and building houses for the unprivileged members of society.

He said bearing in mind the approaching winter season, Spar found it appropriate to consider the unprivileged pupils of House of Hope pre-school and bought them track-suits to keep them warm during winter season.

Mr Meyer pledged to do more for House of Hope pre-school like repairing the school sign boards and organising Christmas gifts for the pupils.

House of Hope pre-school is a non-profit making community based pre-school that runs through donations from companies and organisation.

The school was established in 1999 to provide early childhood education for unprivileged children and orphans.

However in 2012 the pre-school was transformed to cater for all so as to avoid  the stigma attached.

One of House of Hope board member, Ms Josephine Eppie thanked Spar supermarket for the donation saying  it would help keep the pupils warm during the winter season.

She said the school was facing some financial constraints which had led to staff resignations and low students enrolment.

She said the school had 80 pupils but the number dropped to 49 as a result of financial constraints and she  appealed to the Spar management and the communities and other companies for financial support. ENDS
