Botswana Golf team left on April 9 for the Africa Region Five Team Championship billed for Kitwe, Zambia.
The tournament, formerly known as Africa Zone Six Championship, will be held from April 10 to 15.
The team comprising of four players and a reserve will compete in four rounds.
Botswana will compete against 11 other countries namely Angola, Kenya Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony in Gaborone on April 7, Botswana Golf Union (BGU) president, Enoch Mushango said the team was selected at a play-off tournament that was meant to identify the best players.
He highlighted that the team would engage in a training tournament with other local players to ready them for the regional meet.
He said it was a team with young players who needed to be prepared mentally.
He, however, said they had high hopes on them because they had competed internationally in the past.
Team manager, Minkie Molatlhegi stated that the team had prepared well and was ready to represent Botswana and raise the flag high.
“I have high hopes in my team they have dedicated themselves to training and I believe they will make Botswana proud,” she noted.
Team captain, Dikgang Lemogang stated that he was leading a good team that was well prepared for the tournament.
He said at times players lose not because they did not prepare well but because of stage fright which he said would not be an issue as his players had international exposure. ENDS
