09 Apr 2017

Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has appealed to individuals and companies to emulate Mainline Church Choirs by extending a helping hand to the needy.

Mr Molefhi said this during the official opening the 20th Mainline Church Choirs Music Festival held at Limkokwing recently.

He said government had always encouraged the spirit of helping the underprivileged through the just ended National Vision 2016.

“I therefore express my great pleasure and appreciation to mainline church choirs for having been continuously implementing the pillar of A Just, Caring and Compassionate Nation,” he said.

He applauded the choirs for continuing to promote the new National Vision 2036 pillar 2, of ‘Human and Social Development,’ as they were playing a significant role in bringing Botswana as a country to a more sustainable position.

“As an indication of their outreach activities, choirs have in the past distributed the festival proceeds to several underprivileged communities throughout Botswana, including Ramotswa School for the Deaf, Camphill Community at Otse and Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre at Mochudi,” he said.

Chairperson of mainline church choirs, Mr Kennedy Mokgethi gave credit to the founders of the choirs, saying they had created a platform for them and the future generation.

“This platform helps us to fulfill the mission God Almighty has sent us to deliver, the mission to love, to give and to care about our neighbours like we do to our own selves.  It is such an honour to be involved in this noble gesture of giving support to the underprivileged members of the society,” he said.

The Mainline Churches Festival was made up of five churches being, Dutch Reformed Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Methodist Church, Roman Catholic Church, and United Congregational Church of Southern Africa. The first mainline church choir featival was held in 1997. ENDS
