The Mabaila Foundation has donated spectacles to Mogoditshane elders to help improve their vision.

 

The foundation also donated school uniforms to Moamogwe Primary School orphans and 10 fruit trees to all wards of Mogoditshane.

 

At the event, deputy permanent secretary to the Permanent Secretary to the President, Ms Kesego Okie commended the foundation for the good gesture.

 

Ms Okie said elders must be supported and celebrated in every way possible as they were founders of the nation.

 

On the other hand, she said the uniform donation to the less privileged children was more than just a piece of clothing, but a catalyst to a bright future.

 

Ms Okie noted that being different from others in a learning environment could reverse one’s performance and confidence.

 

“Creating equal learning opportunities such as uniform and learning equipment are undoubtedly a great contributor towards the attainment of better results. Children receiving uniform today are being given a whole new opportunity to rewrite their future. Let

us support them further to ensure that their future is a brighter one,” Ms Okie said.

 

She emphasised the importance of stakeholder collaboration towards enhancing performance at schools.

 

She added that parents must be active players in the education of their children and not relegate the responsibility to teachers alone.

 

She further encouraged teachers to go an extra mile in the execution of their duties for the benefit of students, and also urged students to take up responsibility for their studies.

 

Moreover, Ms Okie implored other organisations to imitate efforts by Mabaila Foundation, adding  that government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of developing citizens.

 

The 4 Eyes Optometrist director, Dr Seabelo Maje said sight was a vital aspect of human life and must be taken care of as it gives one a lee way to where ever they want to go.

 

Dr Maje applauded the foundation for having seen it fit to address the need of the elders by initiating to imrpove their sight.

 

He said the foundation contacted them to help the elders improve ans regain their sight, and they offered 10 spectacles at the cost of P20 000.

 

He noted that loss of sight continued to be a health concern the world, saying many people lose their sight every minute.

 

He said the World Health Organisation (WHO) Vision 2020, advocated for an individual to see up to six metrer.

 

He thus urged people to visit clinics for eye check-ups to find remedy for their vision.

 

Giving an overview of the project, Mabaila Foundation president and founder, Mr Tshepang Mabaila said the foundation was a non-profit making organisation registered in 2012 with the aim to ensure elders were provided with quality health.

 

Mr Mabaila noted that the elderly have contributed to the nation during their times, and that they need to be supported in their old age.

 

He also said they were handing over 10 full school uniform to orphaned children following their plea.

 

He said he was passionate about education and that he launched the academic award of excellence at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School to motivate students and teachers.

 

The foundation also donated 10 fruit trees to all kgotlas in Mogoditshane as a sign of valuing the importance of the institution.

 

They also donated P10 000 to Kast towards the Tlatsa Lebala initiative scheduled for May 6.

 

The foundation also gave a certificate of honour to the late Mr George Kgoroba, the former minister, and the then president of BOCCIM, now Business Botswana , who had worked tirelessly for the country. ENDS
