57 marry en masse in Tati Siding

North East District Council (NEDC) chairperson, Ms Florah Mpetsane says Re A Nyalana programme has helped marry off 3 831 couples.
Speaking at a ceremony for 57 couples in Tati Siding on April 6, Cllr Mpetsane advised couples that marriage was a great institution because through marriage they gained life partners who would help them their life journey.
She encouraged couples to love and cherish each other and not marry to divorce because marriage brought dignity to one’s life.
Cllr Mpetsane urged couples to respect marriage and not involve third parties as that always led to disruption of peace in the family.
She condemned the abuse that often happened in marriages and advised families attending the ceremony to learn and accept each other.
Re A Nyalana coordinator, Ms Annah Morwaagole advised the community not to listen to negative comments about the programme.
She explained that the programme followed the same procedure as other marriages when solemnising marriages, noting that it also helped Batswana who wanted to marry but did not have resources to do so.
Ms Morwaagole encouraged communities to use the programme and cautioned those getting married to always use genuine witnesses and not buy people to pose as witnesses.
One of the brides, Ms Phatsimo Mokwena expressed gratitude for the programme, stating that she had always wanted to get be married but could not afford to do so.
She said she had long waited to change her surname and the programme made it possible.
Another bride, Ms Botoka Jack said she was proud to wear a band and be called Mrs Jack. ENDS
