BFA extends Butler's contract

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has extended the senior national team coach, Peter Butler’s employment contract by three months effective April 1 to June 2017.
A press release from BFA says Butler will continue in office to allow for the recruitment of the post of national team coach to be fulfilled.
Born and raised in Halifax in the United Kingdom, 50-year-old Butler had a career as a player spanning 18 years between 1984 and 2002.
He plied his trade for as a midfielder for various English clubs among them West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town, Cambridge United and his hometown side Halifax Town.
After a brief spell as Halifax manager, he became the player-coach of Australian side Sorrento FC, then coaching Malaysian side Sabah FA.
He has been a journeyman rarely spending more than two years at a club. He has coached mostly in Asia, in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Bangkok, working at sides such as Singapore Armed Forces, Persiba Balikpapan, Kalantan FA and BEC Tero Sasana before landing the Zebras job in 2014.
Butler has had a mixed record as Zebras coach, reaching the 2016 COSAFA Cup final with the national side in Namibia, but failing to qualify for either the African Nations Cup or next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament.
The BFA contract extension presents Butler with his longest spell coaching a single team. ENDS
