Vice President appreciates gesture

06 Apr 2017

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appreciated the gesture by the community of Mochudi to build a foot bridge that crosses Notwane River at Phalane in collaboration with DeWet Drilling Company.

When he visited Letsibogo la Phalane  in Mochudi, Mr Masisi asked the Umbrella Village Development Committee to restore the foot bridge to its original state after finding out that some parts were missing.

He therefore, gave the umbrella VDC a few days to mend the bridge so that people could pass easily to agricultural production areas.

On Wednesday, the Vice President came to check the progress as he promised last week and said he was impressed by the changes that had been made.

He stressed the importance of communities doing things for themselves, but also learning from others so that they made improvements on what they were doing.

Mr Masisi said they could copy from other countries and make it a beautiful and dignified bridge that was appealing.

Earlier, the umbrella VDC chairperson, Mr Wilfred Lebekwe reported to the Vice President that they had  heeded his call to mend the bridge as he had instructed them.

He said they had made some changes to the bridge so that it became stronger and the rails used did not shake when people were passing over it.

Mr Lebekwe said they had since realised that the foot bridge was low and during heavy rains, the water would cover it up, but would come up with a plan to make the bridge higher whilst awaiting the real one.

The community was planning to construct a bridge and they called the Vice President to come and appreciate the work they were doing and also help with funding.

After the bridge has been completed, it would connect to an economic stimulus project of 27.5 km dry grading under the agricultural ministry which is meant to ease travel by farmers. ENDS
