06 Apr 2017
Parliament has been informed that Fredrick Maherero Primary School has a shortage of 11 classrooms and 22 teachers’ quarters while Tamocha Primary School has a shortage of six classrooms and 10 teachers’ quarters.
Answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van De Westhuizen said there was therefore more shortage of facilities at Fredrick Maherero school than at Tamocha school. He said in view of the prevailing situation at both schools, the Central District Council has resolved that Fredrick Maherero Primary School be given priority over Tamocha Primary School for implementing of backlog eradication projects for the 2017/18 financial year.
In this regard, he said one double classroom block, four by nine cubicle toilet blocks and eight improved LA2 houses would be constructed at Maherero primary school under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) phase II during the 2017/18 financial year, while Tamocha Primary School would be considered in future re-prioritisation, subject to availability of funds.
The MP for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe had asked the assistant minister to update the House on the construction of additional classrooms and teachers’ quarters at Tamocha and Fredrick Maherero primary schools in Mahalapye. ENDS
