02 Apr 2017
Okavango residents have been advised to exercise to strengthen their immune system and joints.
Speaking at a health fair on Friday, Gumare Aerobics Club instructor, Mr Japhet John said people’s health should be their number one priority, saying good health means good life.
He pleaded with people to do aerobics as it would benefit them and reduce the time they spend at clinics and hospitals.
Officiating at the event held under the theme: My good health, my pledge, the District AIDS Coordinator for Okavango, Mr Samuel Kenaape warned residents against the dangers of indulging in alcohol and drugs.
He said the government has adopted a treat all initiative which allows all people infected with HIV/AIDS to take medication despite their CD4 count.
The Okavango region’s mandate, he added, was to reach 90 per cent of HIV testing. He added that the event was held to educate the community on how to keep healthy.
He urged residents to test for HIV/AIDS and other non-communicable diseases.
Giving a vote of thanks, Okavango principal nursing officer, Ms Fedelia Mpesu pleaded with residents to test regularly for different diseases as it would help them know their health status. ENDS
