Tsogwane presents houses

02 Apr 2017

Shakwe Village Development Committee (VDC) has been commended for provision of shelter to Grace Motshegwa and Onkobile Galentoge families.

The two bed-roomed houses were built under the Presidential Housing Appeal for the two families at Shakwe.

When handing over the houses, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said VDC showed their effortless contribution by volunteering towards the success of the project.

He said the Presidential Housing Appeal, an initiative introduced in 2010 by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama aimed at providing shelter for the less privileged members of the community.

Mr Tsogwane said 25 houses were still under construction, thanking President Khama for the initiative, which has helped beneficiaries to live a dignified life.

“The office of the President also helped the community by extending Ms Motshegwa’s house and building another room for Galentoge family to make it a two-roomed house.

To date, over 717 houses have been built under the Presidential Housing Appeal while 22 are waiting to be handed over.” he said.

He said shelter was a basic need, therefore helping less privileged members of society with shelter does not only meet their needs, but also brings about dignity.

Mr Tsogwane said even though his ministry was still building houses for destitute people, the housing appeal has helped his ministry to reach out to more people who had no shelter.

He urged other people including VDCs to follow suit and contribute positively to the development of their respective communities and help uplift the lives of their own people.

For their part, Ms Motshegwa and Mr Galentoge thanked the VDC, Office of the President and Shakwe community for building their families houses.

The area councillor ,Mr Baemedi Kudumane also thanked all those who contributed to the success of the two projects.

He also thanked Mr Keitiri Raditoaneng, a resident who volunteered to build the houses as well as Brigadier George Tlhalerwa for contributing P10 000 towards the project. ENDS
