Familiarise yourself with Public Service Charter - Molale

02 Apr 2017

Public officers need to acquaint themselves with the Public Service Charter in order to deliver to the public they are serving, says Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale.

Speaking during the sub-districts council employee awards in Good Hope on Friday, Mr Molale said being a public officer comes with a huge responsibility as there were challenges faced in the work place.

“Thrive to work beyond obstacles before you, that alone is an effort and a great achievement,” he said.

He encouraged public officers in the Good Hope Sub-district to surpass the challenges before them and work hard to improve service delivery.

Furthermore, Mr Molale urged the district leadership to unite with public officers in improving service delivery.

He said a relationship between a public officer and the community played a role in efficient service delivery.

He appealed to leaders to desist from compelling public officers to take sides when they service the public, saying public officers were also human.

“Leaders should rather encourage public officers to be diligent towards the public as a whole not to a certain group in the community,” Minister Molale said.

The Good Hope Sub-district council awards were held under the theme: A resourced and motivated public service, an effective way to prudent and efficient service delivery, to which Mr Molale emphasised the need to appreciate and award those who have worked hard.

He encouraged public service officers who were awarded to do more towards the improvement of efficient service delivery in the district.

For those who did not get the award, he said it should be a motivation for them to do better in their workplace and thrive for recognition as well.

Mr Molale noted that the Performance Based Reward System (PBRS) model was used to assess performance and rewards employees accordingly.

He said the model allowed leaders to reward those that deserve. However, he condemned leaders who do not recognise and appreciate efforts made by employees, but would take credit for employees’ efforts.

He said PBRS should be put in place as it was the ideal model to measure the work of an employee.

Giving a word of encouragement, Kgosi Botiki Motshegare implored employees to leave a legacy. He said employees should also display good conduct among the community they serve. ENDS
