Council boss calls for unity

02 Apr 2017

The Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso has called for a smooth working relationship between councillors and public officers to deliver on government initiatives.

Speaking at the end of a full council meeting last week in Kanye, he appealed to public officers to ensure service delivery was improved so as to minimise complaints from the public.

Mr Seametso urged them to make their offices open to customers, adding that southern district was a big district which lagged behind in development.

He said officers should be hands on and adhere to the set standards, noting that they should also take government initiatives to the relevant people especially social relief programmes.

‘’The future of the civil service is bright if only everyone involved is sincere and true to the cause’’ he said.

Mr Seametso further urged public servants to be time conscious and adhere to good work ethics as well as working on their response time to satisfy public expectation.

On other issues, he advised public officers to be conversant with their rights and differentiate politics from their office duties.

The chairperson was concerned that most of the time councillors were not answered satisfactorily by officers during council sessions, observing that some of the resolutions passed by councillors were never attended to and resolved as expected.

Mr Seametso was also worried about the slow implementation of projects and programmes in the district, requesting the district leadership to improve on that. ENDS
