Police in Mochudi are investigating a hijacking and assault incident in which a 43-year-old man sustained serious head injuries.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA, Mochudi Police Station commander, Superintendent Olebile Sitale said the incident took place on March 27 around 3pm in Mochudi.
He said their investigations have revealed that the man was driving to his house when he was stopped by some men whom he thought wanted to ask him for assistance.
Supt Sitale said upon stopping his car the men attacked him and threw him in his car boot and drove to the bush where they assaulted him.
He explained that in the process they demanded that he give them his ATM card and pin which they later used to withdraw some money from his account.
He said police investigations were still ongoing to determine the amount they could have withdrawn.
Supt Sitale said the victim has been admitted at Princess Marina Hospital with serious injuries. He revealed that early this year his wife was injured in a similar attack at their home and later died.
 He said two suspects aged 25 and 40 years have been arrested in connection with the hijacking, and were helping the police with investigations.
He said they found the victim’s car at a car wash near Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital.
In a similar incident, the station commander said a 38-year-old man was attacked when he was stopped to help some men who wanted their car to be jump started.
He said as the man was leaning to assist them, they stabbed him with something sharp and ran away with his Land Cruiser. Supt Sitale said they also discovered that the Ipsum vehicle they were using was stolen in Tlokweng.
He cautioned drivers to be on the lookout for robbers who act as saints while they have hideous plans to rob innocent people.
The station commander said going forward, it was going to be difficult even to help innocent people because cases such as these ones were on the rise, and that people would be afraid to help others unless they know each other. ENDS
