Elephant attacks student

A male student at Nkange Junior Secondary School sustained bodily injuries following an encounter with an elephant on March 29 morning on his way to school.
Speaking in an interview, Kgosi Toteng Ndzonga of Nkange said they received a report that a school going boy was attacked by the elephant in the morning on his way to school.
Kgosi noted that since this year they had seen herds of elephants rampaging through the village unlike in the past when they would be seen mainly at the fields during this time when people were about to harvest.
He said the victim had since been referred to Tutume Primary Hospital and appealed to the members of public to be vigilant at all times.
He said they had since engaged department of wildlife and Botswana Defence Force to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, farmers at Ngomana fields of Nkange on Tuesday killed an elephant that was threatening people in their fields.
One of the farmers, Mr Orbert Tshekiso said on several occasions a herd of elephants had rampaged in his one and half hector field causing damage to crops. ENDS
