District Commissioner swears in Councillor Molokwe
29 Mar 2017
The newly elected ouncillor for Rasesa, Mr Daniel Molokwe was sworn in on Monday during the start of Kgatleng District full council meeting.
That came after the bye-election held in Rasesa on February 11, which saw the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) retain the ward after their late Cllr Seasebeng Monyake died in a car accident late 2016.
Mr Molokwe took the oath to officially begin council business.
Welcoming him, deputy council chairperson, Mr Stephen Makhura told him that he was now beginning his duties as a councillor duly elected by people. He said he should not be afraid of anyone, but speak that which he thought would help his constituents.
Cllr Makhura told him that some of the promises he had made during his campaigns may not see the light of the day due to challenges with finances.
He further said the council was faced with a number of challenges, but he should not lose heart as that happened everywhere and should remain focused to add value to the council business.
Cllr Makhura said he new entrant would learn council processes and administration, which would help him fit in easily.
He also advised him to appreciate the differences in opinion and philosophy by other members of the chamber and strive to understand the language of politics. Further, the deputy council chairperson urged him to be free and express himself without fear or favour.ENDS
