Plans alleviate water shortage
27 Mar 2017
The Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services has secured funding for the designed review and improvement of the Letlhakane centralised sewerages and system.
The funds would also be used for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the existing ponds for possible recycling and reuse of water to alleviate portable water demand for Letlhakane, and this would be completed by end of 2017/2018 financial year.
Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi told Parliament on Thursday that Mosu, Mokubilo and Mmeya villages were currently supplied by a single borehole situated between Mokubilo and Thamalakane gate (BH 1419).
“A second borehole (BH 7955) which is 7km west of Thamalakane gate has been equipped and is awaiting installation of a portable treatment plant to argument water supply to villages,” he said.
Mr Moipisi noted that the installation of the treatment plant was planned to be completed by December 2017. He added that currently water supply to Mmatshomo and Khwee villages was adequate.
“However, as the demand increases, further available boreholes within the region will be quipped and installed,” he said.
In addition, he said “government has finalised the securing of funds for such projects, procurement process is ongoing and the projects are intended to commence during the 2017/2018 financial year.”
Furthermore, he told the House that Boteti East comprises of Mmatshumo, Mosu, Letlhakane, Mokubili, Mmeya and Khwee villages.
MP Sethomo Lelatisitswe of Boteti East had asked the assistant minister to update Parliament on the status of water and planned projects to alleviate shortage of water in the current National Development plan (NDP) 11 in all villages of the Boteti East constituency. ENDS
