27 Mar 2017

Lobatse town mayor Ms Malebogo Kruger has appealed to women to take bold decisions that will positively change their lives.
Mayor Kruger said this on Friday  as Lobatse town joined the rest of the country to commemorate International Women’s Day.

She said it was time women were assertive for what they wanted and believe in. Commemorated under the theme “#beboldforchange”, mayor Kruger said women should celebrate the outcome of their boldness in decision making. She indicated that such decisions may be political, economic, religious beliefs, campaign against violence, forge women’s advancement, champion women’s education as well as challenging bias and inequality.

Furthermore, Ms Kruger said women should also appeal for support for a more gender inclusive environment especially in leadership positions. She noted that women had made tremendous turnaround in attaining leadership positions both in politics and in the corporate world. Although the numbers were not up to the level of the expected SADC Gender Protocol, Ms Kruger said the efforts were worth celebrating.

Ms Kruger also urged and appealed to all men to stand and support women in their endeavors and efforts to develop in the society and community. She applauded men who were supportive of women’s initiatives and also supporting gender equality initiative. Nevertheless, she expressed concern at men who were still lagging behind in supporting gender equality initiatives as well as men who were not pushing and supporting their female counterparts.
The mayor further urged all women and encouraged them to erase any fear they had in them that hindered them from success and therefore pulling down their boldness to change the world. ENDS
