Ftwn to host STEM festival
27 Mar 2017
The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) will host a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) festival in April at the Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE).
Speaking at a media briefing, BIUST’s director for pre-university academic programmes, Dr Haniso Motlhabane said the festival’s mission was to re-invigorate the interest of youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities and careers by producing and presenting a compelling, exciting, educational and entertaining science gathering.
Dr Motlhabane said the festival allowed institutions, businesses, industries and organisations to provide hands-on STEM activities that would stimulate interest and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
He said they wanted to move the country from a resource based economy to a knowledge economy considering that, for them to catalyze, they needed people who have high self-esteem, who know what they want, people who were open minded and trust themselves. ENDS
