Constituencies present project proposals

26 Mar 2017

A consultative meeting between Selebi Phikwe Town Council and Ward Development Committees from Selebi Phikwe East and West constituencies and other stakeholders has resolved that proposals on projects to be funded through the constituency development fund be made.
Selebi Phikwe deputy mayor, Mr Molefhi Pilane advised attendants to prioritise projects to be undertaken in the respective constituencies for funding.
He explained that though a lot needed to be done in both constituencies, the P10 million awarded to each constituency would not be enough to fund all projects.
Thus, he advised stakeholders to consider projects that were not being pursued by the local authority or central government such as maintenance of primary schools, construction of toilets and classrooms because such were funded through the education backlog eradication programme and the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Mr Pilane said projects such as paving of internal roads with interlocking bricks building or maintaining of kgotla shelters could be considered.
Representing the Selebi Phikwe West Constituency, Mr Kabelo Matale indicated that they propose that funds be used for the maintenance of primary school toilets excluding Reuben Mpabanga and Tebogo primary schools because they were included under projects to be pursued by the local authority.
Mr Matale also said the constituency proposed revisiting or resilting of culverts and stormwater drainage systems as well as the expansion of Kagiso Customary Court shelter.
Mr Isaac Kwati, representing the Selebi Phikwe East Constituency consensus, said the constituency wished for rehabilitation of internal roads and stormwater drainage system and maintenance of clinics, foot bridges and electrification of market stalls.
Both constituencies suggested that Selebi Phikwe Stadium be upgraded arguing that each constituency was prepared to contribute P5 million towards the project.
Selebi Phikwe town clerk, Mr Godimo Garegope welcomed the ideas and said they would be presented to the council for consideration. ENDS
