Planning areas improve service delivery
23 Mar 2017
Consultations are underway to declare sub districts of Palapye, Mahalapye and Bobirwa planning areas, director of department towns and regional planning, Mr Peter Moalafi has said.
Addressing the Central District Council (CDC) meeting on March 22, Mr Moalafi said consultative meetings had already been held with Palapye leadership on the impending development and that the CDC meeting was one of the consultative avenues.
He said declaring the mentioned sub-districts, planning areas would, among other things, improve service provisions in those areas.
He also informed councillors that ideally every district should be declared a planning area but, where some districts were vast like the Central District, they would scale down to sub districts until every corner of the country was reached.
The move would confer on the villages the rights to discuss developments they want included in their development plans.
Though conceding that not everyone could afford development plans he explained that the development plans could advice the approving authorities .
Consequently, he challenged CDC to come up with innovative ways of helping the less privileged who could not afford development plans.
He suggested that councils could devise standard plans like it was with SHHA plots and houses.
The director proposed that there be planning authorities in Mahalapye, Boteti, Palapye which would report to CDC headquarters. ENDS
