Brigade students show benevolence

23 Mar 2017

Kanye Brigades Senior Secondary School (KBSSS) students have grouped themselves to raise funds to refurbish playgrounds for Kgodisong Centre, a non-profit making organisation which caters for orphans and vulnerable children in the village.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative recently, KBSSS student and project chairperson, Mr Karabo Madilola said the initiative was motivated by a desire to complement  government efforts to assist the less privileged, which he said was also in harmony with Vision 2036 pillar of human and social development.

Mr Karabo said they wanted to demonstrate love, compassion and thus encouraged other capable Batswana to emulate the gesture. He said support for the institution would make the children keen to study.

The principal of KBSSS, Mr Malven Mukumba commended the students for coming up with the initiative.

Mr Makumba said the students who would be sitting for their BGCSE examinations in October would be remembered long after they were gone.

Mr Makumba said he was particularly impressed that through the project the students exhibited maturity and the ability to think outside the box.

He said they would go from house to house asking for donations to enable the students to finish off the project and appealed to corporates and  individuals to lend them a hand.

For his part, the acting principal of Kgodisong center, Mr Lopang Tauetsile said the organisation was established by the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa with a view to take care of orphans and vulnerable children.

However, he said the main challenge for them was a shoe-string budget they have to work with.

Mr Tauetsile has nonetheless applauded Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) for making life easier for them by providing the children with daily food baskets as a way of corporate citizenship.

He also thanked Mr Mpho Siele of the Kenneth and Evelyn Siele Trust Fund for embarking on a month long fundraising cross country bicycle tour which culminated with China-Africa-people-to-people friendship action donating a school bus to Kgodisong Centre.

Mr Tauetsile further commended Mr Abdul Dada of Midas Spares for support, who  donated chairs to Kgodisong Centre and always provided prizes during graduation ceremonies. ENDS
