23 Mar 2017

Junior Chambers International (JCI) Botswana has presented Gabane Home Based Care with an orchard as part of the organisation’s effort of reaching out to the disadvantaged members of the community.

The orchard was presented to the centre in Gabane by JCI Gaborone branch president, Ms Thapelo Motheo recently.

She said the donation was part of their Show Love, Show You Care project which aims to make impact through sustainable projects.

She added that JCI wanted to extend its love to communities through sustaining lives..

Ms Motheo said JCI was a non-profit making organisation hence they managed the project through the assistance of other partners.

She said they were willing to help anyone in the community, adding that their assistance was aligned to the millennium development goals.

“Our aim is to plant more trees so that fruits can be more and excess be sold,” said Ms Motheo.

For her part, Ms Boitumelo Leburu of Gabane Home Based Care said they were a non-governmental organisation which does voluntary work.

She said the centre was established in 1997, adding that some of the children under their care include orphans and children from underprivileged families.

However, the centre also admits children from well-off families as a measure to try and integrate the children into society.

Ms Leburu stated that some of the children were referred to them by social workers and some by hospitals.

She stated that the centre was facing challenges such as operations costs.

The JCI vice president, Mr Mathew Mutayavi said they want to build a better future for communities.

“As an organisation we cannot do it alone, our mission is to unite all sectors of society,” said Mr Mutayavi.

He said there was a need to create a better environment for everyone, adding that children ought to be cared for and nurtured rightly.

Mr Mutavayi said the relationship that they had built with Gabane Home Based Care would be a lifetime one as his organisation believes in sustainability and continuity. ENDS
