Kokorwe Shamukuni attend CPA meeting

Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe and Member of Parliament for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni are expected back home today (March 23) after attending the 72 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) - Africa  Region Executive Committee Meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Mr Shamukuni departed to Dar es Salaam on March 20 to attend the Regional Representative Sub-committee meeting from March 21-22.

Apress release from the National Assembly states that Mr Shamukani’s term as the Central Africa regional representative came to an end at the 62 Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference that was held on December 11-17, 2016 in London, United Kingdom, therefore he would hand over to Zambia.

The CPA's mission is to promote advancement of parliamentary democracy by enhancing knowledge and understanding of democratic governance.

The association also seeks to build an informed parliamentary community able to deepen Commonwealth’s democratic commitment and to further cooperation among its parliaments and legislators.

Powers and functions of the executive committee include management of financial and administrative affairs of the region, formulation of policy proposals for consideration and adoption by the general meeting, organisation of annual regional conferences and general meeting, implementation of decisions of the general meeting, supervision of the Secretariat and organisation of conferences, meetings, seminars, exchange visits, programmes and study tours,  as well as management of   projects that are in line with  the aims and objectives of the region.
