Serowe magistrate, Mr Tshepo Magetse says dissemination of information on court proceedings is important as it can help speed up proceedings hence the decision by the Administration of Justice to take the magistrate mobile services to the people.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting in Moiyabana to sensitise residents about the services offered by the magistrate court recently, Mr Magetse said services offered by the courts were part of developments.
Magistrate Magetse pointed out that child maintenance, theft and adoption were among cases handled by magistrate courts.
He said Batswana were lucky as they got first class assistance with regard to child maintenance cases.
Mr Magetse said it was mostly women who reported lack of support by men and urged men to do the same about mothers who did not take the responsibility of supporting their children.
He said despite the fact that Batswana dragged their feet to take wrongdoers before the law, as administrators they were aware of the financial constraints and the distance it took for some to reach the courts, a challenge he said hindered most from accessing services, hence the need to take such to them.
Meanwhile, Mr Magetse pleaded with residents to trust the courts as they were meant for them.
Also, he expressed concern about people using several mobile numbers as it made communication difficult noting that the Administration of Justice planned to use SMS to reach clients and improve communication.
Further, he encouraged mediation before seeking assistance from the courts.
Kgosi Mokopakgomo Kgomokgwana of Moiyabana hailed the efforts of taking services to the people and said it was important to address residents and sensitise them on the need to respect law.
