Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited Trust (BIHL) has donated a library to Bopaganang Primary School in Draiihoek.
Speaking at the launch recently, Mr Kingsley Sebele, BIHL board director said it was important to contribute in building the children’s future.
Mr Sebele added that they chose to help in the construction of libraries as the intention was to build strong education foundation at primary level.
“Since education was the key to success, we want to cultivate students’ knowledge while they are still in primary schools, especially schools that are performing poorly,” he said.
He said focus was not only on building libraries to develop schools, but assisting orphans and destitute persons.
Mr Sebele added that they even help graduates who want to progress to do their master’s degree, citing Professor Thomas Tlou scholarship, which sponsors 10 people per year.
He urged the school head and teachers to ensure the library was used according for its intended purpose to produce good results.
Acting deputy secretary in the Ministry of Basic Education, Mr Sir Wonder Masebola said government was committed to delivering quality education, adding that the library was a vehicle that transports reading, a core component of learning because all subjects in the curriculum are offered in English and through reading.
He said as a ministry they were grateful for what BIHL Company was doing as their gesture helped in improving academic results.
Further, he urged parents to encourage children to develop an interest in reading, both for academic and aesthetic value.
Mr Lesedi Seitei of Sebilo Book Services said they were honoured to be one of the companies helping government by donating books to libraries.
He said Sebilo, in partnership with BIHL and other companies had built libraries in more than 22 schools. ENDS
