All Tswapong villages to benefit from community funding

21 Mar 2017

All the 16 villages under Lerala/Maunatlala constituency will each be given P625 000 from the P10 million allocated  to the constituency to undertake community projects.

Palapye Administration Authority chairperson, Mr Lesedi Phuthego said in an interview after a meeting that was held with Village Development Committees (VDCs) under Palapye and Lerala/Maunatlala constituencies on March 17.

He said the VDCs agreed to give all the 16 Tswapong villages a share of the cake and the  council was yet to call a special sub-council meeting to approve community projects that would be undertaken through community funding.

Mr Phuthego said Palapye constituency on the other hand agreed to divide the P10m among the 10 wards or polling districts that made up Palapye constituency so that each ward got P1 million.

Kgosi Molebatsi Sello Moroka III of Lerala said he was happy with the arrangement because all the villages would benefit equally.

He said if the fund was divided by the number of wards, Lerala was going to benefit more than other villages because it had two wards, adding that small villages in most cases benefited very little in terms of developments because of their small population.

Kgosi Moroka said he was happy that the community, together with VDCs and the village leadership came up with community projects that could be undertaken, something he said was commendable.

Further, he said government should be lauded for the initiative because it had no bearing on the DDP8 or NDP11.

Kgosi Gomolemo Molebatsi of Majwaneng said he was happy with the decision taken by VDCs because all the villages would benefit equally.

He said the fund would help address challenges that could not be addressed by the DDP8 and NDP11.

Among the proposed projects to be undertaken in Palapye is the paving of internal roads. ENDS
