ESP Project Downscaled

Shortage of funds has resulted in the down scaling of Sese tribal offices project.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele on March 16, Mabutsane Sub-district council economic planner, Mr Ogalaletse Motlhalane said the initial budget for the project was P2.4 million, but only P1.7 million was approved.
The Type 2 tribal offices project undertaken through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) included offices, toilet block, paving, cell block and parking space.
However, financial constraints prompted council to exclude the cell block and parking space from the project.
Kgosi Justice Motlhalane had said even though they were thankful for the ongoing project, there was need for a police cell in the village.
He said due to the proximity of the village to Jwaneng, the population was increasing at an alarming rate and so was crime.
Another resident, Mr Phenyo Kemmonye shared Kgosi Motlhalane’s sentiments and underscored the need for fully-fledged police offices to allow for prompt attention to criminal activities in the village.
He also said there was no police vehicle and that defeated efforts to combat crime.
Mr Kemmonye also requested for Kgosi Motlhalane to be upgraded from headman of record.
He said the village was big and the workload was overwhelming. ENDS
