Jwaneng Mine Hospital will get a facelift effective May.

Briefing the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele during tour of the hospital on March 16, hospital superintendent, Dr Mwamba Nsebula said the facelift would affect x-ray unit, the emergency unit as well as the wards, among others.

He noted that the plan was to have an integrated service point for the outpatient and emergency departments.

He explained that currently there was one x-ray unit servicing both inpatients and outpatients, and that the upgrading would separate the two.

Dr Nsebula said the hospital was committed to providing quality and affordable service to the community, noting that the facility had hosted the Jwaneng Teen Club.

“Objective of the Teen club was to bring together adolescents who have been affected by HIV/AIDS, and the hospital has offered its facilities to this noble gesture,” he said.

Further, he noted that they had collaborated with the District Health Management Team to address challenges facing the health sector in the district.

For his part, Mr Makgalemele applauded Debswana for opening their facility to the general public and not only their employees.

He said he was impressed with collaborations that the hospital had with other stakeholders for the common goal of providing quality service.

He underscored the need to have service standards in health facilities to teach patients about their rights and obligations.

He said such standards should be publicly displayed for easy viewing by public.

Further, he urged hospital employees to promote healthy lifestyles within their communities to eliminate the risks of non-communicable diseases.

He said such diseases had become a concern, hence the emphasis for preventative care.

He also said healthy lifestyles could reduce the number of people seeking medical services and in the process save money for government. ENDS
