Mascom Wireless empowers youth

20 Mar 2017

Mascom continues to positively transform the lives of young Batswana by providing business opportunities through Kitsong centres.

The mobile giant network on March 16, awarded 10 more Kitsong centres to young aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country.

The project started in 2009 in partnership with government through Nteletsa 2 Rural Telecommunication Development.

To date, Mascom has awarded 105 Kitsong centres in total, while over P25 million has been spent in the project.

Kitsong centres come complete with computers, printers, and photocopy machines, among other ICT equipment.

Services provided by the centres include airtime and sim card sales, email and Internet services, photocopying and printing, among others.

Speaking at the Kitsong centres handover ceremony, Mascom board chairperson, Mr Carter Morupisi said the centres would go a long way in contributing to improvement of the lives of Batswana and also empowering the youth.

He said the increase in the use of ICT could transform lives of ordinary people by bridging the rural/urban digital gap, adding that the beneficiaries should see such as an opportunity for a bright future.

He therefore commended Mascom for the partnership the company had with government, saying that job creation was one of the top government priorities.

Meanwhile, the 2017 Mascom Kitsong centres beneficiaries include Sethamiso Lehutso of Kopong, Emmanuel Motlhaokgotse from Molapowabojang, Dudu Hailey from Otse, Ntebogang Montshiwa of Malaka, Patience Baruti of Tumasera, Nametso

Bokoto from Serule, Amantle Kasha from Mmadinare, Batanani Ntwaetsile from Sefophe, Aobakwe Paya of Bobonong and Kgotso Makuminzi of Masunga.

The centres are developed through a grant, but beneficiaries have to give reports on the progress of the business. ENDS
