20 Mar 2017
Mogobane is working on creating water and skydiving park which will give the village an identity.
The project followed a motion adopted by the south east district council (SEDC) to create a water and skydiving park in the village next to Mogobane dam.
The project working committee member Dr Victor Ruele briefed the full council on March 15 that they will be working in partnership with GaMalete Development Trust, SEDC and other stakeholders to ensure that the project becomes a success.
He said the project belongs to the whole district hence everyone’s input and expertise will be handy.
Dr Ruele said they envisage the park to be a tourism attraction and relaxation place with lodging facilities, horse rides, cultural shows, boat rides and fishing activities among others.
He added that the area was of close proximity to Gaborone and it will add to government efforts of creating employment and alleviating poverty.
The council chairperson, Mr Phenyo Segokgo noted that the council had to own the idea and facilitate the working committee to ensure that the project becomes a success.
Mr Segokgo applauded the committee for the cordial working relationship between them and GaMalete Development trust, saying that would be beneficial to the whole community.
He said the cordial relations between the committee and trust will enable the projects to succeed, adding that Mogobane and Otse villages if properly managed will be tourist engine of the districts.
Councillor Dintle Kereng encouraged the committee to always update them on the project progress.
Councillor Adolf Mosalaesi said the project would create employment and bring much needed developments to the district. ENDS
