Windows tack welded due to lack of fundsTsogwane

Due to lack of maintenance funds some vandalised rear windows of one classroom block at Khwee Primary School were tack welded as a temporary measure.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this in Parliament on March 16, in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe.

Mr Tsogwane said the temporary solution was necessitated by the need to protect pupils from chilly and windy conditions, and that was based on the consensus among school authorities and the district council.

He said the vandalised parts included steel hinge legs, tear drop hinges, handles and locking screws.

The minister said the welding was done not by design but a reaction to the situation which prevailed at the time.

However, he said he was not aware that students at Khwee had a tendency of jumping out of the rear windows while teachers were busy with other students.

He said his ministry would continue, during financial year 2017/18 to attend to any minor defects to make the classroom block habitable.

MP Lelatisitswe wanted the minister to appraise the House on what caused the school classrooms in Khwee to remain without ventilation on the rear side.

He also wanted to know that if the welding of windows was done by design or otherwise, whether it was true that students in Khwee Village have a tendency of jumping out through the rear windows while teachers were busy with other students. ENDS
