Ministry to roll out e-government

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila has told parliament that government continues to make progress on ensuring that online services reach constituents.
He highlighted that some of the services are e- filling (BURS), MITI online services, PPADB e- bidding, examination results and admissions, name search for company registration and kiosks at the courts.
He said there are some preparatory work done that will ultimately result in reliable and convenient services and such including reviewing some pieces of legislation and Acts that will enable online service provision, maintenance and upgrade of infrastructure where applications systems would be hosted.
The minister said there are other associated activities such as engaging ministries to accelerate their pace of business process optimization.
He said an opportunity exists for young people especially in the area of content adding that parallel to this the ministry is in the process to review the policy that governs procurement of innovation.
He stated that this will strengthen the commitment that government has shown over years evident by the reserved categories in ICT procurement and other related policy positions.
Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo had asked the minister to state the current status of the implementation and roll out e-government. She also asked the available opportunities for youth owned businesses and if there are any pilot programmes currently and if so how many are implemented by Botswana based companies. ENDS
